Food Allergies, Snacks, and Treats
Dear Parent/Guardian,
This letter is to inform you of a student in your child’s class who has a severe life threatening food allergy to:
PEANUTS and ALL TREE NUTS
Many protections are in place but snacks/treats/food brought in by parents is a loophole for which your help is needed.
We would appreciate your cooperation in avoiding this/these allergen(s) when bringing snacks/treats/food into the classroom (i.e. for parties) to avoid a potentially harmful situation for this child.
Please note that this restriction is for food eaten within the classroom, not lunchtime food eaten in the cafeteria. When allergen containing food items are sent to be eaten for lunch in the cafeteria, please remind your student that they are not to eat this item for snack in the classroom.
If you are bringing in food for a class event, we ask that you avoid this/these ingredient(s) in your baking or buying. Please bring the food label with your treat so we can double check the ingredients. Also, please be aware of cross contamination. This occurs when a utensil or surface comes in contact with the allergen and then is used to prepare a class treat without washing it.
Thank you for helping to make our school a safe place for all children to learn!

Class Snacks
This year, your child will have two quick snack breaks, one in the morning after first recess at 10:55 and another near the end of the day at 2:45. Please send nutritious snacks (ie. fruit, veggies, cheese, crackers, etc.) to recharge your child's brain and body for learning. Please remember that the kids are not allowed to have nuts or nut butters (ie. trail mix, certain granola bars, peanut butter, almond butter, etc.) in our classroom. They may, however, keep these items in their lunch boxes and eat them in the cafeteria at lunch time. |
Birthday Celebrations
We would love to celebrate your child’s birthday. If you would like to provide treats, please bring enough for 23 students. Birthdays that fall over the weekend will be celebrated the Friday before unless otherwise arranged. Summer birthdays will be celebrated at the end of the school year. |
Party Treats
Occasionally during the school year, we will have class parties, such as the Harvest Party at the end of October and the Polar Express Party just before Winter Break. If you would like to provide treats for these occasions, please make sure you reference the allergy letter above. Thank you so much!! |
