- Math – We are focusing on subtraction, specifically different types of subtraction stories, such as stories about taking away, stories about comparing, and stories about missing parts.
- Writing – Students are working on bringing their small moment stories to life by revealing their characters’ thoughts and feelings.
- Reading – In addition to the instruction students receive in their Power Up classes, our homeroom class will also be working to build our “Read to Someone” stamina and continuing to practice choosing “Just Right Books.”
Homework
I have posted this week’s homework on our class website: http://mrszylstra.weebly.com/week-of-oct-14-18.html.
- Reading – Please continue to record nightly reading minutes on your child’s October Reading Calendar. Practice reading online at www.raz-kids.com if you so desire.
- Math – This week we will cover lessons 2-6 through 2-8. Please have your child complete those pages in the Topic 2 math homework packet. Remember, your child does not need to complete all three pages for each lesson. Please choose the page(s) that best meet your child’s needs.
- Write & Share – Our Write & Share assignment this week is “Halloween.” Please help your child be prepared to share on their sharing day.
- Spelling – This week, we are reviewing a mix of short vowel words that end with -ck. If your child scored 100% on the pre-test last Friday, they will receive a list of challenge words on Tuesday (I apologize for the late turn around this week!).
