Hello Families of Room 22,
Announcements:
Big Breakfast: This week we will be learning about plants. Students will be going to a different classroom every day after recess to learn about roots, flowers, stems, and seeds. As a result, we will not be able to fit
in our usual snack break. To help your children make it to lunch without growly tummies, please ensure they have a good breakfast before heading off to school. Thank you.
Math Packet: I wanted to let you know that there was a photocopying mistake with the first Topic 10 math homework packet you received. It was on white paper. If you have not thrown it out, please do so. I re-copied the same Topic 10 homework packet on yellow paper and sent that home with your child before the break.
Bikes for Books Reading Challenge: This ends this Friday, April 18th. Don’t forget to turn in a ticket for every 100 minutes read.
Learning This Week:
Language & Grammar: We will continue to talk about “describing” words (adjectives).
Spelling: Spelling pattern words this week have “or”. They are: fort, corn, cord, port, and short and
our sight words are: before, line, right, too, and means. We will take our pre-test tomorrow.
Math: We will continue with Topic 10, Adding with Tens and Ones.
Writing: We will write about what we did over the break and also about plants.
Reading/Daily 5: Students will “read to self”, “read to someone”, “listen to read”, “word work” or“write” each morning.
Science: We will be planting seeds, learning about the parts of a plant and what each part does.
Homework:
Reading: Please read for 15-20 min. each night and record your child's minutes on their April Reading Calendar (also, record every 100 minutes on a “Bikes for Books Reading Challenge” ticket).
Math: This week we will be covering lessons 10-2, 10-3, 10-4, and 10-5. Please choose the corresponding page from Topic 10 to complete with your child.
