November 10, 2013
Hello Families of Room 22,
First of all, I would like to apologize. I have sent home 2 Newsletters and a few reminders about our class party and also Parent Teacher Conference forms, but unfortunately, I found out on Friday, that my distribution list was not working and my emails were not gettingthrough. I am so sorry!
Announcements
Harvest Party: Thank you to all of the parents who helped to make our Harvest Party a huge success. The students had a fun time! I do have a big brown bag full of leftover supplies (i.e. icing, sprinkles, etc.), if someone would like to pick it up.
November Reading Calendar:
You should all have received a November Reading Calendar. Please let me know if you did not get one.
*P/T Conference Notice: Your Fall Conference Appointment time will be coming home on a pink sheet of paper Tuesday. Please return the bottom portion to me as soon as possible.
Learning This Week:
Language & Grammar: We are learning about nouns.
Spelling: We are studying short vowel words that contain "wh". The high fluency words for this week are: she, do, how, their, if
Math: We are finishing up Topic 3, Five and Ten Relationships, and will begin Topic 4: Addition and Subtraction Facts to 12.
Writing: Many students are still editing their “sloppy copy” story. We are focusing on adding capitals and periods. Other students are beginning their “good copy” or “published” copy.
Reading/Daily 5: We will learn about our “Word Work” station.
Social Studies: We will be beginning Chapter 8, What Groups Do We Belong To? Also, we will be reading books about Thanksgiving.
Homework:
Reading: Please continue to read for 15-20 min. each night and record your child's minutes on their November Reading Calendar. Your child should have brought home their first take-home reader book 2 weeks ago. These readers will help children read "just right" books and can be used toward the nightly reading minutes.
Math: This week we will take our Topic 3 test and begin Topic 4. A new math homework packet will come home this week. Please choose one page per lesson that best meets the interest of your child.
Write and Share: Students will be writing about a pet they have or a pet they would like to have.
Spelling: We are focusing on words with "wh". Please practice spelling words for 5 min. each night.
Important Dates:
Monday, Nov. 11th – No School
Wednesday, Nov. 13th- Vision & Hearing Screenings for our class
Wednesday, Nov. 20th- Picture re-takes
Friday, Nov. 22 - Wednesday, Nov. 27th – Parent Teacher Conferences. School lets out at 11:55am on
all P/T Conference days.
Specialists:

I hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend!
Sincerely,
Holly Cleveland
