Hello Families of Room 22,
Announcements:
“FIRST GRADE” Countdown: Our FIRST GRADE countdown will continue this week (I will send reminders home each evening).
Monday is R for “Riddle Day”.
Tuesday is S for “Stuffed Animal Day”.
Wednesday is T for “Talent Day”.
Thursday is G for “Game Day”.
Friday is R for “Read Aloud Day”.
Talent Day: Please encourage your son/daughter to participate in this fun day Wednesday. They can share any kind of talent with the class (i.e. whistling, snapping fingers, tying shoes, a musical instrument,
a karate move, a lego creation, reading a poem, etc.).
Field Day and BBQ: The all-school BBQ is at 11:30am this Thursday. Please consider joining your son/daughter for this fun event. Remember, there are no seats, so you may want to consider bringing a
picnic blanket.
Permission Form for Centennial Park: Please sign and return the permission slip for Centennial Park.
First grade students will be walking over to Centennial Park for an end-of-the-year field trip the afternoon of Tuesday, June 17th .
Learning This Week:
Spelling: We are reviewing our sight words over the next week.
Math: We will begin Topic 16, Fractions of Shapes.
Writing: We read a wonderful story last week called, “My Garden” by Kevin Henkes, in which a little girl imagines the kinds of things she would grow if she had her own garden (i.e. jelly bean bushes, seashells, etc.). Students will be writing about and illustrating their own “garden”.
Reading/Daily 5: Students will “read to self”, “read to someone”, “listen to read”, “word work” or “write”
each morning.
Socials: Last week we began Chapter 14, What Do
Good Neighbors Do? We will
continue to discuss ways we can be a good neighbor.

their June Reading Calendar.
